is a former student of the philosophers Manfred Frank, Gianfranco Soldati, William G. Lycan, and Simon Blackburn, and has received numerous academic fellowships and awards from various institutions, including the DFG (German Research Foundation), the DAAD (German academic exchange service) and the Fulbright Commission. His research focus is on the philosophy of mind, neurocognition, and on the cannabis high. Marincolo has published a series of essays on the marijuana high, co-edited bewusstseinserweiterungen (“mind expansions”), an issue of the German internetzine “parapluie”, and published three books on the marijuana high: the study High. Insights on Marijuana (Dogearpublishing, Indiana, USA, 2010), and the essay collection High. Das positive Potential von Marijuana (in German, Klett Cotta/Tropen, Stuttgart, Germany, 2013), which contains his limited photo macro art series “The Art of Cannabis”. His third book on marijuana “What Hashish Did To Walter Benjamin – 20 Mind Altering Essays” appeared in fall 2015.

High. Insights on Marijuana

Is it true that a marijuana high can lead to profound insights, as many users have reported? In his now classic essay

“Mr. X”, anonymously published in 1971, even the famous astronomer Carl Sagan claimed that he owed many invaluable insights for his publications to marijuana. The investiga

tion High. Insights on Marijuana explains in depth the different ways a marijuana high can lead to insights as well as to other mind enhancements, such as the enhancement of episodic memory, pattern recognition, imagination, creativity, introspection, and our ability for empathic understanding of others.

Countless fascinating reports given by marijuana users and cutting-edge research from various areas of knowledge help Marincolo to take our understanding of the marijuana high to a new level. His unusual study is a thoroughly accessible and entertaining interdisciplinary tour de force through the current cognitive sciences, evolutionary psychology, neuropsychology and the philosophy of mind. High. Insights on Marijuana offers a revolutionary new perspective on the mind-enhancing potential of marijuana and takes his readers to a voyage deep into the high mind.

This peppy sativa-dominant hybrid is a great daytime blend of two legendary strains, Blue Dream and Sour Diesel. Following in the footsteps of its sativa Diesel heritage, Sour Dream produces an extremely happy, euphoric head high perfect for daylight errands and evening social occasions.

What are the Effects?

The effects are creative and energetic. Effective medical uses for this strain include everyday stress, chronic pain, anxiety, and lack of appetite. It can also be helpful in treating insomnia, despite its upbeat effects.

What is the Flavour?

Like its Diesel parent, Sour Dream has a pungent, diesel aroma and flavor, with additional berry notes. The appearance of the bud is lime green with brown hairs. THC levels are reported to top 17%, making this a relatively potent medical choice. But CBD concentration is much lower, much too low to use Sour Dream as the only treatment for seizures.

Blue Sour Characteristics

Flavours: Diesel, Skunky, Sugary, Sweet, Tobacco
Effects: Creative, Energizing, Euphoria, Happy, Uplifting
Medical Relief: Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Chronic Pain, Depression, Eye Pressure, Fatigue, Nausea, PTSD, Stress

If this seems like a good fit for you, but a bit hesitant? It’s good to try out the different strains and see which is more beneficial for you! We encourage you to try an eight of an ounce (3.5 grams).

Concentrate Basics: Shatter, Budder and Oil

As the popularity of concentrates continues to grow, so do questions about the many forms that dabs can take. In this video, we’re taking a closer look at the three main types of concentrates — Shatter, Budder and Oil. Shatter is smooth, clear and solid. It is the purest and most potent form because it involves a second extraction process that removes fats, lipids and waxes. This can result in over 80 percent THC. However, it also means that terpenes are lost in the process. Budder retains more of the terpenes so it tends to be more flavorful but less potent — with THC percentages in the 70s. It has a creamy consistency from being whipped. Oil tends to be the least refined of the three. It is a gooey, sticky liquid that can be hard to handle. This form — also known as honey oil or butane hash oil — can retain a full flavour profile, however, THC levels tend to be less consistent. – HighTimes

Ahhhh, yes. Newcomers to the Cannabis Community may have heard of hashish or hash. But not know what the heck it is…. So let’s break it down me break it down for you. So, what is hash?

First, we ought to understand the anatomy of the marijuana plant.

1st part is the actual plant, including stalks, flowers, and leaves, then you have the buds. From these buds, they hold the THC, which is the part where smokers and growers enjoy.

The buds are trichomes aka tiny hairs, that are white to amber in colour, and it’s these trichomes that make up the hash.

Hash Moroccan by HerbalCoast

How is Hash made?

Centuries ago, Hash, as we know it was discovered in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. It was after farmers finished picking the buds from the crop, and was left with residues on their hands, which they’d scrape off to clean. For a more in-depth article, please click here.

What are the Effects of Hash?

Due to Hash’ high amounts of THC (70%-90%), users can expect to feel many of the effects as they would consuming marijuana. It can be smoked or consumed, and usually used to feel relaxed, stress-free, and all around put you in a better mood.

Here are other side effects:

Perception of time, color and spatial boundaries becomes distorted

Relaxed, happy feeling becomes elevated to the point of euphoria

Uncontrollable laughter

Increased hunger (munchies to the extreme)

Increased paranoia

Dryness in mouth and throat

The effects usually last as long as four hours.

What is AMS Flower?

AMS is an indica dominant hybrid (70% indica/30% sativa) strain that was created as a potent cross of the insanely popular Swiss Fragolina X Swiss Gran Flora strains. This dank bud stole its name from the Amsterdam airport code. This beautiful bud boats an average THC level of 15% and a CBD level that ranges from 1-1.5% on average.

What are the Effects?

Users describe the AMS high as one that is strongly introspective with an accompanying clear-headed uplifted euphoria. You’ll feel intensely motivated and laser-focused, yet you’ll have tendencies to become lost in your own thoughts with a feeling of utter relaxation. This is accompanied by high levels of pain relief and utter relaxation. Due to its potent effects and high CBD level, AMS is said to be an ideal strain for treating conditions such as chronic pain due to injury or illness, ADHD, migraines, and chronic stress.

What’s the Taste and Look?

AMS buds have an intensely sweet aroma of sour grapefruit and a memorable taste of sweet sugary citrus with a surprisingly sour aftertaste. These buds have small fluffy yet dense bright neon green popcorn-shaped nugs with long twisty fiery orange hairs and a frosty layer of thick chunky white trichomes with sweet sticky resin.

Staffer’s Review

I LOVE this stuff. Amazing for those who loves to toke while working. Takes you to a level of deep concentration, without getting lost. HerbalCoast kills it again with this strain. Best part? The taste of this herb. Reminiscing my first toke, and I was surprised it had a really nice taste, sweet and light.

Additional Strain Information

Girl Scout Cookies

Girl Scout Cookies or GSC, is an OG Kush and Durban Poison hybrid cross whose reputation grew too large to stay within the borders of its California homeland. With a sweet and earthy aroma, Girl Scout Cookies launches you to euphoria’s top floor where full-body relaxation meets a time-bending cerebral space. A little goes a long way with this hybrid, whose THC heights have won Girl Scout Cookies numerous Cannabis Cup awards. Patients needing a strong dose of relief, however, may look to GSC for severe pain, nausea, and appetite loss.Parents: Durban Poison, OG Kush

Similar to: Blue Dream, Sour Diesel, Jack Herer, Grandaddy Purple, OG KushFlavors: Sweet, earthy, pungent
Effects: Lazy, euphoric, sleep, happy, hungry
Medical: Depression, insomnia, anxiety, lack of appetite
Used to help with: Anxiety, ADD/ADHD, migraines, bipolar disorder, PTSD

Pennywise

Pennywise is a high-CBD indica cross between Harlequin and Jack the Ripper, a combination that lends this strain its killer clown name. Four phenotypes of this Stephen King-inspired strain exist, some of which have fingerlike buds while others appear more round. Notes of coffee and pepper lift from the purple-fringed flowers with undertones of lemon and bubblegum. Rich in the therapeutic compound CBD, Pennywise is especially effective in treating arthritis, PTSD, epilepsy, neurological disorders, and cancer symptoms. It contains a 1:1 ratio of CBD and THC, so the psychoactive effects are milder and more relaxing. Jack the Ripper’s cerebrally focused effects are detectable in Pennywise’s genes as euphoria and mental clarity take over with an invigorating buzz. Pennywise flowers in 60 to 67 days and is suitable for either indoor or outdoor garden.

Sugar Jack

Sugar Jack is a cross of Sugar Shack and Jack Herer. An excellent daytime strain, this Sativa-dominant beauty will provide energy stimulate motivation. Like its name suggests, it features a slightly sweet taste and scent that verges on piney and herbal.

Effects: Uplifted, Euphoric, Creative
Medical: Fatigue, Stress, Anxiety

Marionberry

Like the fruit it is named for, Marionberry Kush is a delicious hybrid bred by Heroes of the Farm. A well-balanced cross of Raspberry Kush and Space Queen that puts off a full spectrum of fruity flavours, Marionberry Kush closely resembles her genetic “sister” Cinderella 99. There are six main phenotypes of Marionberry that all show a range of fruit flavours like passionfruit and raspberry. The aroma is smooth, sweet, and earthy with a sour twist. The effects are pronounced and uplift the mind almost immediately and then slowly relax the body without putting you to sleep.

There’s so much negative news about ‘Stoners’ that we tend to forget, it helps a lot of people with their pain. We hope you enjoy Morgan Freeman Talks Weed with Larry King ?

Morgan Freeman – Oscar winner and voice of God – says he’s not picky when it comes to what strain of marijuana he smokes, and make his case for legalizing the plant. “They can’t continue to say that it’s a dangerous drug when it’s safer than alcohol,” Freeman tells Larry in this clip.

Did you know?

Peabody Award-winning journalist and talk show host Larry King has been covering stories for over 60 years. So it’s not surprising that King has covered every topic, even cannabis. In fact, he supports legalization and used to have a joint now and then back in the day. A treat to see Morgan Freeman Talks Weed with Larry King

Chemo by WestCoast Growers – known more commonly as “UBC Chemo” to cannabis users, is a 100% pure indica hybrid. What’s interesting about this strain, is the unknown genetics bred specifically to treat patients going through chemo treatments. Because of these strong effects and its insane THC level that averages between 18-21%, Chemo is ideal for treating patients suffering from nausea, depression, insomnia, nightmares, and chronic pain due to chemo, cancer, and other conditions.

These nugs have an aroma of fragrant pungent earthy pine and a taste of sweet floral pine that becomes pungent and harsh upon exhale. Chemo buds have dark purple spade-shaped rock hard resinous nugs, covered in dark rich orange curly hairs. Each nug caked with a layer of thick chunky white crystal trichomes and a fine layer of sticky sweet resin.

Chemo’s Characteristics:

Flavours: Pine, Sweet, Woody
Effects: Euphoria, Happy, Hungry, Relaxing, Sleepy

Ahhh, yes. The question all new herbalist asks. The article you are about to read is simple and well written. I couldn’t possibly put it into better words myself. To view the original article, there will be a link at the bottom of this post!

Ok, let’s get down to business. What’s the difference between indica and sativa?

Indica and Sativa are the two main types of cannabis. Each has its own unique effects and a distinctive high.

Cannabis is one of the oldest crops known to mankind, with records of its cultivation dating back thousands of years.
Today, it is widely accepted that marijuana has two main species: Cannabis indica and Cannabis sativa. Crossbreeding of indica and sativa strains has also led to a wide variety of hybrid strains.

Indica and sativa strains are thought to have different effects, and people often use them for different purposes.
Let’s take a look at the differences between these two types of cannabis.

We’ve put together some sample packs for you to try!
Mini Sample Pack┃3 Strains, 1 Gram Each
Sample Pack┃7 Strains, 1 Gram Each

Appearance

photo cre: cannabiscanadaforums.com

The most accepted way of distinguishing indica versus sativa is by appearance, or what scientists refer to as morphology.
Sativa plants are tall, loosely branched and have long, narrow leaves. They are usually grown outdoors and can reach heights of up to 20 feet.
Indica plants are short, densely branched and have wider leaves. They are better suited for growing indoors.

Effects

Indica and sativa strains each have their own unique effects. Sativa strains are more stimulating, while indicas tend to be more sedating.
The high from sativa strains is energizing, cerebral and well suited for daytime use. A feeling of well-being and ease is often associated with sativas, making them ideal for social situations. They are also said to promote deep conversation and enhance creativity.

Sativa

uplifting and energetic

cerebral, spacey or hallucinogenic

best suited for day use

Indica

relaxing and calming

body buzz or ‘couch lock’

best suited for night use

Indica strains tend to have an opposite effect. They provide a “couch lock” or body high that is well suited for nights when you just want to wind down and be in your own head. Indicas are often used to relieve stress and aid with sleep.
Sativas have a higher CBD:THC ratio, while indicas have a higher THC:CBD ratio. Naturally, both have their own unique benefits as well.

Here are some Sample Packs for you to try:
Mini Sample Pack┃3 Strains, 1 Gram Each

Benefits and Uses

Generally speaking, indicas are best for physical ailments such as pain and inflammation, and sativas are best for mental conditions such as depression and ADHD.
However, there are certainly exceptions based on the individual.

Uses of Indica

Patients dealing with conditions like multiple sclerosis, glaucoma, chronic pain, Crohn’s disease, and sleep disorders tend to benefit from indica’s full-bodied, muscle relaxing effects.
Indicas can also be used to treat anxiety, while many find that sativas can exacerbate anxiety or create paranoia.
Sativa strains can also be used for moderate relief of these conditions, and some patients will trade the increased relief of indicas for the energy-boosting effect of sativas during the day.

Uses of Sativa

Due to its uplifting and energizing effects on the mind, sativas are a great choice when treating mental ailments.
Sativa strains are often used to treat conditions like anxiety, ADD/ADHD, depression, and other mood disorders.
However, some people may find that certain sativa strains increase their anxiety, so it is always important to test out a new strain before committing to it as a medication.

Hybrid Strains

Hybrids are crossbred strains of cannabis that have both indica and sativa genetics. They can take after either parent, or be a blend of both. The goal is usually to create a strain with desirable characteristics from each parent.
Hybrids are relatively common, and many popular indica and sativa strains have hybridization somewhere in their ancestry.
In some cases, a hybrid strain may be more characteristic of one species (indica or sativa).
These strains are referred to as indica-dominant or sativa-dominant. For example, Northern Lights is a 90% indica-dominant strain.

Summary

There are two main types of cannabis strains: indica and sativa. Growers have also created hybrids, which are a mixture of the two.
Indica strains tend to be used at night, while sativas are better during the day. Different strains can also be beneficial for different conditions. Indicas are often used for painful conditions, while sativas are often used for mental disorders.
Each strain has unique genetics, resulting in different levels of THC and CBD. Indicas tend to have more THC, while sativas tend to have more CBD.
