Concentrate Basics: Shatter, Budder and Oil

As the popularity of concentrates continues to grow, so do questions about the many forms that dabs can take. In this video, we’re taking a closer look at the three main types of concentrates — Shatter, Budder and Oil. Shatter is smooth, clear and solid. It is the purest and most potent form because it involves a second extraction process that removes fats, lipids and waxes. This can result in over 80 percent THC. However, it also means that terpenes are lost in the process. Budder retains more of the terpenes so it tends to be more flavorful but less potent — with THC percentages in the 70s. It has a creamy consistency from being whipped. Oil tends to be the least refined of the three. It is a gooey, sticky liquid that can be hard to handle. This form — also known as honey oil or butane hash oil — can retain a full flavour profile, however, THC levels tend to be less consistent. – HighTimes

Ahhhh, yes. Newcomers to the Cannabis Community may have heard of hashish or hash. But not know what the heck it is…. So let’s break it down me break it down for you. So, what is hash?

First, we ought to understand the anatomy of the marijuana plant.

1st part is the actual plant, including stalks, flowers, and leaves, then you have the buds. From these buds, they hold the THC, which is the part where smokers and growers enjoy.

The buds are trichomes aka tiny hairs, that are white to amber in colour, and it’s these trichomes that make up the hash.

Hash Moroccan by HerbalCoast

How is Hash made?

Centuries ago, Hash, as we know it was discovered in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. It was after farmers finished picking the buds from the crop, and was left with residues on their hands, which they’d scrape off to clean. For a more in-depth article, please click here.

What are the Effects of Hash?

Due to Hash’ high amounts of THC (70%-90%), users can expect to feel many of the effects as they would consuming marijuana. It can be smoked or consumed, and usually used to feel relaxed, stress-free, and all around put you in a better mood.

Here are other side effects:

Perception of time, color and spatial boundaries becomes distorted

Relaxed, happy feeling becomes elevated to the point of euphoria

Uncontrollable laughter

Increased hunger (munchies to the extreme)

Increased paranoia

Dryness in mouth and throat

The effects usually last as long as four hours.

Who is Jimmy Fallon?

Jimmy Fallon is the true embodiment of the American dream. Born in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, Fallon originally majored in computer science and communications at The College of Saint Rose. With only one semester left until graduation, Fallon decided to drop out of college and pursue his dream of being a comedian.

He moved to L.A. and decided to pursue comedy full time. He performed stand-up comedy at The Improv in L.A. and started taking improvisational classes at the Groundlings.

It was always Fallon’s dream to join the cast of Saturday Night Live but was originally rejected on his first audition. However, Fallon was able to impress SNL creator Lorne Michaels enough on his second go-around to secure a spot on the show. Fallon was on the show from 1998-2004 and was infamous for breaking character with his signature fit of laughs.

Does Jimmy Fallon smoke weed? Fallon has made a ton of pot jokes on his time as the “Tonight Show” host and has even taken a shotgun from Willie Nelson himself. The two seem like an ideal fit, but there’s not much evidence to suggest Fallon is a big time stoner.

In fact, Fallon has said he doesn’t really smoke, although he has tried it:

“I’ve tried it, but I’m not a pot guy. I just can’t get into it. Smoking cigarettes, I can’t do that either. It just doesn’t fit with me.”

It’s tough to imagine Fallon not smoking because he seemingly is obsessed with some of his guest’s weed habits. He’s plagued guys like Snoop Dogg, Seth MacFarlane, and Seth Rogen with tons of weed questions in past episodes of his show. Perhaps he’s just into the mystic nature of the plant.

But it isn’t all about getting high, it’s amongst other things that make life a bit better. In most cases, it deals with depression, chronic pain, anxiety, and the list goes on. We want to shine some light that there are individuals who are an authority figure within the community and feel we should showcase their thoughts. We hope you are enjoying our blog so far! Thank you for dropping by!

David Duchovny

“Why not allow everyone to benefit from it?”

Now, many movie buffs will probably know him for playing Fox Mulder in “The X-Files,” but his hardcore fans will have love him for playing Hank Moody, the always “out of this world” character in “Californication.” He’s of course, David Duchovny and yes, in real-life too, he’s all for the herb.

“I’m all for legalization. I think people are going to smoke pot anyway, and the idea that people are in jail for smoking pot and dealing pot is reprehensible to me personally,” Duchovny said. “I think you could make a lot of money as a government by treating them like cigarettes and getting your taxes off of them and building roads and taking care of the people that need to be taken care of. I think it’s a great idea. I don’t think it would lead to any more use. Everybody I know, if they want to, has smoked pot. The fact that it’s illegal doesn’t stop anybody I know, so why not allow everybody to benefit from it? It would be billions of dollars of tax revenue.”

What is AMS Flower?

AMS is an indica dominant hybrid (70% indica/30% sativa) strain that was created as a potent cross of the insanely popular Swiss Fragolina X Swiss Gran Flora strains. This dank bud stole its name from the Amsterdam airport code. This beautiful bud boats an average THC level of 15% and a CBD level that ranges from 1-1.5% on average.

What are the Effects?

Users describe the AMS high as one that is strongly introspective with an accompanying clear-headed uplifted euphoria. You’ll feel intensely motivated and laser-focused, yet you’ll have tendencies to become lost in your own thoughts with a feeling of utter relaxation. This is accompanied by high levels of pain relief and utter relaxation. Due to its potent effects and high CBD level, AMS is said to be an ideal strain for treating conditions such as chronic pain due to injury or illness, ADHD, migraines, and chronic stress.

What’s the Taste and Look?

AMS buds have an intensely sweet aroma of sour grapefruit and a memorable taste of sweet sugary citrus with a surprisingly sour aftertaste. These buds have small fluffy yet dense bright neon green popcorn-shaped nugs with long twisty fiery orange hairs and a frosty layer of thick chunky white trichomes with sweet sticky resin.

Staffer’s Review

I LOVE this stuff. Amazing for those who loves to toke while working. Takes you to a level of deep concentration, without getting lost. HerbalCoast kills it again with this strain. Best part? The taste of this herb. Reminiscing my first toke, and I was surprised it had a really nice taste, sweet and light.

For those who are new to the Cannabis Community, I’m sure there’s a lot of questions about whether ingesting or inhaling would be a better option. It really depends on your preference. Say, you have asthma, inhaling it wouldn’t be a great idea. I would suggest would be a better option! Now please note, I am not an expert, but I do read a lot through news and research through google. Some people don’t like smelling like pot, and would prefer edibles or vapes!

Now Leafly.ca wrote a great article on this! So let’s go through it together.

Eat Edibles or Smoke it? 5 Differences Between Marijuana Edibles and Flowers

1. THC is Absorbed Differently

Why are marijuana-infused edibles typically so much stronger than smoked or vaporized cannabis? When you consume cannabis in an ingestible form, its THC is metabolized by the liver, which converts it to 11-hydroxy-THC. This active metabolite is particularly effective in crossing the blood-brain barrier, resulting in a more intense high. Inhaled THC undergoes a different metabolic process because rather than passing through the stomach and then the liver, the THC travels directly to the brain. This is why the effects of smoked or vaporized cannabis come on faster and diminish quickly.

Try
100mg Pure THC Distillate Gummy Bears┃Cannadees
Today!

2. Effects and Duration

The Golden Rule of edibles: start small and be patient. Because of the way edibles are metabolized, it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours to kick in, and the effects can last several hours. These effects vary between edibles, but generally, consumers report stronger body effects coupled with an almost psychedelic head high in large doses. Smaller amounts yield milder and arguably more comfortable effects, which is why we reiterate: start small and be patient, or you’re gonna have a bad time.

Edibles may be strong, but compared to inhaled cannabis, they actually deliver a smaller concentration of cannabinoids to the bloodstream. Ingesting edibles introduces only 10 to 20 percent of THC and other cannabinoids to the blood plasma, whereas inhaled cannabis falls closer to 50 or 60 percent. The effects of smoked cannabis tend to peak within the first 10 minutes and rapidly dissipate over the next 30 to 60 minutes.

3. Edibles are More Difficult to Dose

Determining the THC content of a homemade batch of edibles is no easy feat, and even professional distributors sometimes have difficulty capturing the advertised dose in their products. Because of the delay between ingestion and onset of effects, consumers may sometimes overestimate the dose. Inhaled cannabis, with its instantaneous effects, allows the consumer to gradually dose as needed.

In legal markets, 10 milligrams of THC is considered a “standard” dose that normally delivers mild effects. A 100mg edible is considered much (much, much) more potent and should be split into several doses over time. Colossal amounts of THC won’t kill you, but trust us: you will enjoy the next several hours of your life more if you dose responsibly and patiently.

4. Disparities in Advertised Potency

In unregulated markets without meticulous testing, it’s possible that an edible’s potency does not match the label. Keep in mind that your go-to distributor may have a batch that varies from the last one you tried, so if you think, “The last time I tried this, it was fairly weak, so this time I’ll eat twice as much,” you may find out the hard way that this latest batch is a lot stronger than what you expect.

Legal cannabis systems are moving toward stricter regulations for edible testing and THC content maximums, but if you’re living in a state without these guidelines in place, be sure to ease into your edible expedition slowly and cautiously until regulations and testing pave the way for consistency and accurate labeling.

5. Edibles as a Healthier Alternative to Smoking

Many people become interested in edibles because they don’t enjoy the harsh experience of smoking or are worried about the long-term health concerns associated with it. Vaporization is another health-conscious alternative commonly recommended, but edibles can oftentimes provide longer lasting relief to chronic symptoms like pain, often making them a preferred choice for medical patients.

Edible recipes don’t always have to consist of the the stereotypical pot brownie or a sugary sweet treat; nowadays, you can transform most dishes into a cannabis-infused concoction. Try some cannabis cannabis-infused granola or quinoa salad, or make your own cannabis butter and douse your kale chips with it if that’s what you’re into.
